Snipe Class Racing (INSA)

The Iowa Nebraska Sailing Association (INSA) is the association of sailors within LMSA that race One Design Snipe Class Sailboats. We are fleet #309 of the Snipe Class International Racing Association (SCIRA) which has racing programs worldwide. The Snipe is a relatively small 2-person racing sailboat. People of all ages, experience and skill levels race Snipes.

There are approximately 20 Snipe Class boats within the fleet and there is frequently the possibility to purchase a used boat at a reasonable price. Skippers are often looking for crew, and this is a great way to get started in Snipe sailing. We periodically hold clinics / classes as well to introduce more sailors to Snipe sailing. If you would like to find out more about Snipe sailing, here are a few resources you might find helpful:

We race on Wednesday nights at 6:00 pm and Saturday afternoons at 1:30 pm with other boats from the open fleet. If 3 or more Snipes are racing, then we can have a separate start. We host a regatta in September where Snipe sailors from other regional fleets are invited to compete. Here are some photos from the first and second day of the 2021 regatta, as well as a brief video.

Dues for INSA are $40 for regular racing members and $25 for first year members. These dues are in addition to the required LMSA membership fee.

Snipe sailing is known for serious racing and serious fun. We’re always excited to grow our fleet of Snipe sailors!
