Coming soon! 2nd Annual Ice sailing/Winter Games- this event is weather dependent. We will keep you updated on pending event.
Julie Sommer of Omaha was one of 300 women selected to participate in an all women around the world voyage to study plastic pollution. The program supports women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) as well as sailing. Julie was chosen for Leg 13: Vanuatu, Oceania to Cairns, Australia . She will be sailing on a 70 ft ketch named TravelEdge from June 5th -19th, 2020. Julie has to fund her voyage and the LMSA board voted to contribute $1,000 to support her efforts. Julie is not a sailor and wants to be as prepared as possible for the voyage, so LMSA members have volunteered to work with her in the spring to help with the sailing basics.

| A long time loyal member & comrade of our Lake Manawa Sailing family |
has passed away; Ken Hall.
He was very involved with the club from anchoring our dock team on
Docks-In-Day to building several boats, and had a deep passion for sailing & ice boating.
The Hall family suffered a tragic loss on 7 August 2019 when Commander Kenneth Hall, USN (Ret) passed away. Ken Hall was a Department of the
Air Force Civilian in J8, and valued member of the USSTRATCOM team.
A memorial service with full military honors for Ken will be held Friday,
August 23 at 11:30 am in the Offutt AFB Chapel and Annex: 2500 Capehart
Road, Bellevue, NE.
Following the service, a wake celebrating Ken’s life will be held at The
Nebraska Brewing Company: 7474 Shadow Lake Towne Center Parkway
#101, Papillion, NE.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project; Military Working Dog Team Support Association, Inc.; or The U.S. Naval Academy Sailing Center. Please direct any sentiments for the family to P.O. Box 115, Council Bluffs IA, 51502-0115.
A farewell sail to Ken will be held at Lake Manawa.
(Will follow up with time & date)
Twice a year the Big Red Sub Club brings members of the USS Nebraska (submarine) SSBN-739 to Nebraska for a tour of the state through Kearney, North Platte and Omaha. As in previous years, this year’s crew of six sailors were given royal treatment attending two parades, a rodeo, the College World Series and they even got to pet penguins at the zoo. At the end of their whirlwind tour, their last stop is the Lake Manawa Sailing Association where the crew and Big Red Sub Club members picnic in the pavilion. LMSA members provide sailboat rides (weather permitting). This year Steve H provided a tour of Lake Manawa via pontoon boat. It was a beautiful evening on an almost empty lake.
