Besides the Snipe sailors and the INSA organization, LMSA is proudly represented by the Cruiser Fleet. Currently there are about 50 members who sail various types of cruiser sailboats from our club. The largest boats are a Catalina 26 and a McGregor 26. The smallest are a collection of Lasers, a Force 5, Dolphin, AMF Puffer, etc. in the 10 to 12 foot range. There are many different sailboat manufacturers represented in our fleet which include: Hobie, Compac, Chrysler (Buccaneer & Mutineer), O'day, Holdler, Galilee, Peep Hen, Victoria, Hunter, Santana, NACRA, Precision, Melgas, etc.
All boats are kept secure on trailers within a locked chain link fence after hours. The larger boat owners have invested in an old Suburban truck to assist with the ingress and egress of their boats on the ramp. In recent years there has been some organized cruiser racing using the Portsmouth handicap system, though the majority enjoy the recreation and relaxation of day sailing. Many of those with cabins take their boats to quiet little coves on the lake and anchor overnight. The club facilities (complete with a picnic shelter, workshop, restrooms, showers, storage, large paved area and yard) provide an excellent place to work on your boat, socialize or just mess about with boats.
